Summer 2005 : Through my lens.....
First Flight
It was the beginning of a new sort of adventure for me as I boarded the
flight to Frankfurt on 3rd May ( 2005 ) , in the early hours .. around
2:30 am . It was pitch dark and I couldn't make out anything while the
plane taxied . I could make out when it took off though . Lots of people
say that u must stuff cotton in your ears while the plane takes off . I
didn't have any cotton with me and I also wanted to see ( hear ) what
is so 'bombastic' about take off that u shouldnt hear it . There was
nothing . No loud sound . No drastic pressure drop . Maybe it does
happen in some aircraft though . Anyway the plane gained height
and I was still alive :)
Delhi city looked quite pretty at night . Lines and lines of street lights
and car lights . After that I dont really remember seeing much . I got
bored enough to sleep . And the 747 cabin was sort of stuffy . The
flight didnt start of quite as I xpected . I woke up couple of hours
later to find much brighter sunshine than what I would have xpected .
( My body didn't feel jet - lagged at any point of time , in any case
my daily schedule is wierd and unpredicable . ) Then all of a sudden
it became darker and cloudier . The plane was approaching Frankfurt .
Now I was beginning to enjoy the flight bcoz at least I could make
out that I was flying over roads and cities . 9 hours of flight , and 5
hours backwards .. it was 6:30 am when I got down at Frankfurt airport
to finally get a view of the exteriors of my aircraft . The airport
was massive . Not that I'd seen any other , but there were just rows
and rows of 747's parked like lines of cars back home .

So this was the 747-400 which had flown me all the way .
And here's another one clicked from the lounge..

My excitement related to first flight was now over . I boarded another 9 hour
flight to Atlanta . Another busy International airport . And yet another to
Savannah . A flight of 30 mins or so . This was a nice flight bcoz I could get an
aerial view of Coastal Georgia countryside , marshes , rivers and forests .
The drive to Skidaway Island was a bit longer than the flight to Savannah .
The island and the lab .. pretty cool setting , with the estuary waters all over ,
water outside my window , water outside my lab , deer outside my door
and a great net connection in the lab , AND the lab is about 50 m from my
apartment . What else would one want . A little less solitude I'd say .
Got to see all the Malls and the restraunts . Savannah is Georgia's hottest
tourist spot so its a nice place really ... a 'historic' town . WATER all over .
Rivers . Lakes . Ocean . And Churches . The people are really religious out
here . I really wonder if anyone goes to hell . Also , how well mannered and
welcoming . Here are some pics of my lab and the place ...
This is the research ship , docked just outside my lab .

This is my workplace .

Sunset outside my lab ..

Savannah Downtown Pics

And I visted Atlanta as well ...
Atlanta .... The city which
* Hosted Olympics 96
* Coke Started Here
* CNN Headquarters are here ..

Anyway , I'm quite tired of blogging for today ...
